How it works
Every member gets a personal share link. A friend who joins through it earns bonus stamps for both of them, but only once that friend's first stamp is approved by your staff.
Customer
Shares their link
Every member gets a personal link once you turn referrals on.
Friend
Joins through it
They get a card as normal. Nothing is paid out at this point.
Staff
Approves their first stamp
Only now do both sides receive their bonus stamps.
Referrals are off until you turn them on, and self-referrals are rejected automatically.
That timing is the whole point. Nothing is paid out at sign-up, so creating fake accounts achieves nothing.
Turning it on
Referrals are off until you enable them. You will find them in Card Studio, under Refer a friend. Only the account owner can change these settings, and each change saves as you make it.
Set:
- how many bonus stamps the referring customer gets, up to ten
- how many the friend gets, up to ten
- optionally, a monthly cap per referring customer
Choosing the numbers
Keep both sides modest. One or two stamps each is usually right.
The referring customer is already motivated, because they are recommending you to someone they know. You do not need to buy that recommendation, only acknowledge it.
The monthly cap
Without a cap, one very social customer can bring in a large number of referrals in a short period. The cap limits how many rewarded referrals one person can generate in a rolling thirty days.
Most shops do not need one. Set it if you are promoting the link somewhere public.
What is blocked automatically
- referring yourself
- a code from a different business
- a customer who already has a referral pending at your business
- a referral once that customer is at their monthly cap
Your staff also see a "referred by" badge on the approval screen when they are stamping a referred friend for the first time, so the moment is visible at the counter.
If you run several cards
The friend joins whichever card the link took them to, and the referring customer is rewarded on that same card where they hold it.
